Dragon's Weyr Circle

About our HPs and Training in Dragon's Weyr Circle

About Ariadne Morningstar, HPS

I am 47, Pisces with Leo rising, and have been studying Wicca and Witchcraft since 1987. I was initiated into my tradition of Craft in 1992 and have been teaching since 1995. I admit freely that I have much to learn still, when I stop learning I'll be dead! When I teach, I make a commitment for the next four years minimum to a student, to assist them in their training. So it's a big commitment from me, to offer to teach. My husband and High Priest Mikhael was my student, and he earned Third Degree in 1997.

I was raised Catholic, and did not suffer any ill effects as a result. I take the (rather simplified) viewpoint that all Deity is but one portion of the Universal all. On the other hand, I also feel that each deity is it's own person and that they are not all the same. So I am also a polytheist. JWH is not Ganesha is not Artemis is not Inanna or Isis! I also honor the Norse Gods in a reconstructionist faith format with an Asatru Kindred Hrafn Skjoldr Kindred as a Heathen. Those practices are seperate from my Wiccan practices.

I believe in tolerance of all peace abiding religions. I don't claim to know it all, and if you ask me a question I don't know the answer to, I'll try to get it for you. I like people to be honest with me, for in order for there to be perfect love and perfect trust, there needs to be some basic honesty with me. I like to put on big events if we can find people to come to them, and I like to delegate tasks to coveners who are interested in helping out. I will never ask a coven member to 'out' themselves, as part of what we do in our group is honor our oaths of secrecy, and we do not tell who is or is not in our group, unless given permission.

I enjoy working in a coven, the reason I joined a coven was to learn with friends and coven "family" as opposed to learning on my own. It was easier for me to learn in with others walking the path beside me, and sharing their experiences. I laugh and say I'm introverted, because I like to spend time alone, but it seems that I like learning along with others, anyway. I enjoy mirth and reverence in ritual, and laughter is not uncommon in our circles, but I can also be quite serious when need be.

I enjoy talking with other witches on the web, and helping others to connect in their community. I'm so happy that we have found other Pagans and Witches in the Lancaster/Palmdale Community! I used to be in the closet, and I hold highly the concept of secrecy and not revealing other Pagans who might not be 'out'. Last but not least, you can learn a bit more about me at my Live Journal where I blog about my day to day life. I have also created a (shudder) myspace page, Dragon's Weyr Circle .

About Training/Teaching

Training in our tradition is bestowed upon invitation only (though it's a good idea to ask us first!). We have typically only taught friends or friends of coveners. Because we teach in a coven setting, to request training is to ask to join our coven. Those whom we invite to join our coven and train with us, are those who we have gotten to know, either at Open Rituals, AV Pagan Moots, or just know personally and respect and trust as friends. Being invited to join our coven is a gift, and only done with those we feel we can trust. You may need to ask more than once or twice because the student is the one seeking, not us. We begin classes each year for a year and a day in February, and meet twice monthly the first year, and then more frequently after initiation. Students are expected to attend ALL coven rituals and classes, and work with the group.

The final authority for any disputes is Ariadne and her HP, period. This coven is hierarchal, and we don't apologize for it, because it is the traditional way. Of course if we were too strict no one would want to hang around... we're not that bad! All students are treated the same, when joining our coven, regardless of experience. We ask that students do not begin another course of study in Craft while they are studying with us. And if they are currently already in a coven, they will need to make our tradition a priority. We have found much to love in our beautiful tradition and it's ways. We have a formal initiation and elevation for each degree, and students are expected to attend the weekend long rituals for elevation once a year, as well as Open rituals hosted by our coven. We do not charge for training, though there are nominal dues expected of each coven member to help support the cost of cakes, ale, and other coven supplies.

If you have read all of this and still are considering asking to join, give us time to get to know you, and give us time to introduce you to others in the community. Our goal is not that we be the one true path, but rather that we can help you find the true path for you... and in some cases, our Tradition is not going to be your path, and there is nothing wrong with that. What would be wrong would be to force you to remain where you feel you are not comfortable or where you are not harmonizing with our group mind.

We typically only take on students in January or February of each year, and only a few at a time, those whom we have come to know. We have classes at a minimum of twice a month, the first year, and then each subsequent year there is a larger time commitment to do the work to earn your degree. Membership in our coven is not something we negotiate over the internet, you will need to make the effort to meet us and get to know us and let us get to know you. We have monthly healing circles on or around the New Moon which are open to those we have met. It is a good way for us to get a feel for your energy and you to get a feel for ours. However, our healing circles are not only for people seeking our coven, we have a number of friends who join us from time to time for fellowship, and naturally, good potluck. So consider getting to know us in that manner if you are seeking our coven. No experience is necessary, just bring an open mind and a potluck item to share or be willing to pitch in with clean up.
